Community and External Relations Management Policy

PT ODG Indonesia recognizes that it has several obligations by way of being a part of the local community and that by meeting these obligations it will contribute to community development, build local business capacity and generate local wealth and quality of life, while at the same time meeting its service and purchasing needs.

Foremost amongst its obligations, the Company must support the protection of the local environment and the health of all members of the local community, in accordance with its Healthy, Safety and Environmental Policy.

The Company will also help the local community by providing employment to local residents with the requisite skills, wherever possible. In addition, it will contribute to the development of skills and knowledge of the employees from the local community by providing training and on-the-job coaching as part of carrying out the day to day works associated with the Company projects. The Company believes strongly that providing employment is the single, most effective means of contributing to the local economy.

The Company will also support businesses in the community in accordance with its Local Business Policy, by giving preferential consideration to vendors domiciled in the local communities. The Company believes that the profits generated from this commerce will increase local regional tax revenue to support regional development and create greater opportunities of creating additional transactions within the local economy as businesses are encouraged to invest in hiring additional employees as well as potentially making purchases of additional plant, equipment and technology which may then have further economic flow on effects.

From time to time, the Company will assist local communities through the donation of services to improve local electrical and fire safety or assist in disaster relief efforts or responses to adverse weather events.

Where the Company will have a long-term presence in a community, it will work with the local community leaders to support local entrepreneurs through the establishment of a revolving loan fund to lend to local businesses to assist with start-up and operational costs. Where possible it will support these new businesses through the procurement of goods and services in what is hoped to be a virtuous circle of economic development until the business is able to operate independently.
